MAPUSA: 75-year-old Shankar Parmekar from Halarna, Pernem was killed in a road accident at Tivim on Saturday evening. According to the Mapusa police, the deceased who is a well known personality in theatre field was coming from Assonora to Pedem, Mapusa in connection with some drama activity.
When he reached Madel-Tivim he was knocked down by a motorcyclist, Abhijit Pandurang Shet, 27, from Tiswadi who was speeding on his motorcycle causing grievous injuries to him. He was then rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Mapusa police conducted the panchanama and have registered an offence against the motorcycle rider for rash and negligent driving.
Meanwhile, in the second incident an unknown male body of an elderly person has been found by the Mapusa police at Bastora. In another incident, Eknath Sonu Parsekar, 51, from Xell Bastora committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope in his tailoring shop at Bastora. According to the police the deceased it is learnt was mentally unsound. He had gone to the shop on Saturday night and on Sunday his family members found his body hanging. After post mortem the body was handed over to his relatives. PSI Mr Shailesh Narvekar is investigating.
