6 hurt as bus, tanker collide at Priol

PONDA: Six persons were injured, including the two drivers, when a staff bus crashed into an oncoming oil carrying tanker at Konnem, Priol, on Tuesday evening.

The drivers of both the vehicles, Mr Micheal Noronha, from Usgao and Mr Karmal Gudda, were seriously injured and were rushed to the Community Health Centre, Ponda in semi-conscious state. After being administered first aid there, they were moved to the Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
The locals, who rescued the injured drivers, said that the drivers were crying for help, and informed that their legs have been badly damaged besides injuries to their chest and head.
The staff of the company, who were traveling in the bus, suffered minor injuries, and were given first aid and later discharged.
According to the available information, the accident occurred at around 3.30 p.m. at Konnem-Priol slope, when both, the bus and the tanker were in the process of overtaking at high speed collided with each other.
The police cleared the road of debris from the accident and spread mud on the spilt oil to prevent other vehicles from skidding. The vehicular traffic was blocked for almost an hour.
Interestingly, the police station did not reveal the details of the accident till 8 p.m. even though the accident occurred at 3.30 p.m. They said that they were awaiting for information from the GMC and DSR, before revealing the details of the accident.
