PERNEM: Four members of a family from Ratnagiri were killed on Monday when their car collided head on with a truck at Torxem in Pernem taluka.
The accident took place on the national highway-17 at Torxem when the Ratnagiri-bound car (MH08U 3645) collided head on with the truck (GA03T 9305) coming from the opposite direction at around 3.30 p.m.
Four members of the Ratnagiri family -- Ratna Shetty and her three sons, Yogesh Shetty, Dinesh Shetty and Suresh Shetty – died in the accident. The family was returning from Bangalore in the car.
The Pernem police station PI, Mr Uttam Raut Dessai is investigating the case.
In another road accident, which took place at Arambol between a two-wheeler and a tempo, one Suhas Naik, a 35-year-old man from Arambol, died.
The Pernem stretch of the NH-17 highway is becoming a death trap. Recently one Tukaram Pandoskar, a 35-year-old man from Tuem and his four-year-old son Taptesh lost their lives after their two-wheeler collided with a bus from Maharashtra at Porascodem.
