The ill-fated passenger bus which fell on its side while negotiating a turn near Agnel Ashram, Verna on Saturday morning.
VASCO: As many as 26 persons including a 10-year-old girl from Sanvordem were injured when a Vasco-bound bus in which they were travelling fell on its side after the driver lost control over the bus while negotiating a turn at Matol junction near Fr Agnel Ashram Institute, Verna on Saturday around 7.45 a.m.
Verna police rushed to the site when they received a call in this regard and immediately shifted all the 26 injured passengers to the Hospicio hospital, Margao in 108 ambulance.
Six of the injured are being treated at Hospicio, while others were discharged after first aid. The six injured were identified as Ms Aurora Piadade Colaco, 46, a resident of Nuvem; Mr Mohammed Rasui Munihar, 50, from Margao; Mr Bhagesh Varik, 31, from Canacona; Mr Mukesh Tatbhat, 37, of Nuvem; Ms Sanjana Janu Naik, 34, a resident of Sanvordem and Mr Abi Methew, 30, a native of Kerala.
The investigating police officer, Mr Jivba Dalvi informed that the bus, bearing the registration number GA-02-V-4950 was proceeding towards Vasco from Margao via Titan-Birla.
Police have registered an offence against the driver of the bus, Manjunath Lakondi, 24, from Zuarinagar, Birla, under Sections 279, 337, 338 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 192 and 3 of Motor Vehicle Act for causing injuries by driving in rash and negligent manner.
PI Mr Dalvi has disclosed that the Verna police have moved an application to the Vasco RTO requesting them to cancel the bus permit and the license of the driver. Police have attached the bus. Mr Dalvi is investigating the case under the supervision of superintendent of police, South, Mr Allan D’Sa.
