PANAJI: In an attempt to offer clean and trouble-free tourist spots, the tourism department has formed two inspection squads, one each in either of the two districts of the state, to check illegalities at places frequented by the tourists, said newly appointed director of tourism, Mr Nikhil Dessai.
The tourism director also said that these squads would initially function along the coastline of the state but would subsequently be moved to tourist places in the hinterland.
The squads would also be responsible for checking of menace by the Lamanis and begging by the people and harassment caused to the tourists.
Mr Dessai told ‘The Navhind Times’ that these squads would be fully responsible for monitoring beach safety, illegal activities in the shacks, dumping of garbage along the beaches besides supervising beach cleaning and operation of life saving services.
Besides, the squads would also monitor washing of tar balls and report to the tourism department for further action, he added. Mr Dessai went on to add that the squads have been directed to bring all illegalities and criminal activities to the notice of police, which fall under the ambit of the police, for further action and also report to the department where the department could intervene and take prompt action to clear the bottlenecks and hindrances.
