18-yr-old held in Baina shooting case

VASCO: Vasco police have arrested Siddharth N L Kashyap, 18, a native of Uttar Pradesh but presently residing at Baina in connection with the Tuesday’s shooting incident in which a woman was shot at in her flat at Patrong, Baina.

Police have recovered a bore gun and four bullets from him, besides gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

Police have also discovered that the accused was involved in a similar case reported at Chicalim, a week ago, wherein a labourer was robbed of Rs 2050. The accused has confessed to both the crimes.

He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco on Wednesday and 13 days police remand was taken.

Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’, the deputy superintendent of police, Vasco, Mr Mahesh Gaonkar disclosed that the accused was picked up from his residence after recording the statement of the victim who is undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim.

It is learnt that the father of the accused is working with the victim’s husband on a vessel. The accused gained entry into the flat by convincing the victim that he had been sent by her husband to collect some documents which were required urgently on the job.

When the victim went to the kitchen, the accused shot her with a 0.12 bore gun in the neck and left the scene after stealing her gold ornaments. The accused had purchased the bore gun from Uttar Pradesh for a price of Rs 3,000, informed the police.

The deputy superintendent of police, Vasco, Mr Gaonkar has further disclosed that the accused had a criminal background in the past and that in one case, the accused had stolen a mangalsutra of his mother but the case was not registered.

A police team led by the superintendent of police, South, Mr Allan D’Sa acted swiftly and brought the accused to book.
