PONDA: The driver of a bus was seriously injured while 15 passengers escaped with minor injuries, when the bus in which they were travelling collided against a truck at Boma, on Monday around 4 p.m.
While the injured were immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim in 108 ambulance and are learnt to be out of danger the driver of the bus had to be extricated from the mangled bus cabin by the Fire and Emergency Services, Ponda. Police said that he has suffered multiple leg fractures.
On the other hand the driver of the truck fled the scene soon after the accident and is said to be ‘absconding’. The truck cleaner who received minor injuries has been arrested. According to police, the bus bearing the registration number GA-01-T- 7254, was proceeding towards Ponda while the truck (MP-07-HB-1776) was coming in the opposite direction when the accident took place. The impact was so severe that the front portions of both the vehicles were smashed. A case of accident has been registered and further investigations are underway.
