MARGAO: Nerul Sports Club outplayed Goa Velha Sports Club 3-1 via tiebreaker and cruised into the semi-final of North Goa McDowell’s No 1 Yaari Cup inter village football tournament organised by Saligao United at Duler Ground on Wednesday. Both the teams were locked in a goalless draw during the regulation time.
The game kicked off with damp spirits as a result there were few thrills at either end. As the match progressed further, Nerul began attacking and their forwards missed some good chances to score goals. On the other hand, Goa Velha weren’t behind as they launched a barrage of attacks but their efforts were thwarted by the rival defenders.
In the 39th minute, Nerul Sports Club missed a glaring chance when striker Siddanath with only Goa Velha goalkeeper to beat, shot wide. With time running out, Goa Velha nearly struck the match winner when striker Agnelo D’Silva balloned over from hand shaking distance.
Throughout the game there were some spordiac moments of excitments as teams showed an intent to score but opposing defenders stood tall and played their roles perfectly in such moments.
In the ensuing tiebreaker, Aniket, Akash and Deepraj were on target for Nerul Sports Club while Kunal scored the only goal for Goa Velha Sports Club.
