Naval authorities have raised serious concern over multiple violations in the funnel zone (flying zone) on the eastern side of the runway.
As per a senior official of the navy, there are multiple violations in the funnel zone including mushrooming constructions that pose a security threat to the airlines. “As the civil enclave (Dabolim airport) records nearly 70 airlines a day, the construction activities in the funnel zone could be a threat to the lives of the air passengers,” stated the naval official.
He said that recently the naval authorities had spotted an excavator involved in excavation work close to the compound wall of the navy towards the tail-end of the runway.
“The naval authorities have written to the state government to check whether the work had any clearance from the administration,” said the official. He maintained that the excavation work carried out was a clear violation in the funnel zone.
Meanwhile, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco had also recently written to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar raising serious concern over the multiple violations in the funnel zone of Dabolim airport. He demanded the chief minister to dismantle unauthorised and illegal structures under the height restrictions rules.
