Betalbatim: A hat-trick by striker Rovan Pereira and a goal each from Climax Lawrence, Paul Fernandes and Danston Fernandes enabled Navelim Villagers Union to register a 6-1 win against St Anthony’s SC, Colva and enter the quarterfinals of late Joao Francisco/Luiza Pacheco Cup Football tournament played at Betalbatim Sports Complex grounds on Sunday.
Playing in their best form Navelim Villagers Union dominated both the sessions of play and had an easy team against a weak St Anthiony’s SC, Colva who could not produce any worthwhile moves.
St Anthony’s defence crumbled under pressure with Rovan Pereira scoring the opening for Navelim in the 14th minute when he dodged two rival defenders before slamming the ball into the far corner of Colva nets.
Rovan Pereira who had a very good game on Sunday, later scored two more goals to complete his hat-trick, bulging the nets in the 38th and 60th minute.
St Anthony’s SC managed their defence in the first half quite well but in the second session as Navelim Villagers Union came charging up, the Colva team couldn’t contain the fast moving Navelim strikers.
St Anthony’s keeper R. Fernandes who had a busy time in the first half to quell the dangerous forays of Navelim strikers, caved under constant pressure in the second session as he remained helpless, unable to stop the opponents from scoring.
As the match progressed, Climax Lawrence found the mark in the 45th minute and then Paul Fernandes who raced down the right flank banged an angular effort in the 59th minute, giving no chance at all to Colva keeper R Fernandes.
Navelim attacking medio Danston Fernandes thereafter scored in the 69th minute with a thundering effort.
St Anthony’s pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute thorugh Francis Pereira.
