MARGAO: The Navelim gram sabha on Sunday resolved to write to the district administration and Margao Municipal Council to initiate action over the discharge of sewage into a tributary of River Sal near Konkan railway. The villagers also decided to crackdown on migrants with the help of Margao police over the increase of crime in the village.
The gram sabha took strong objection against the indiscriminate discharge of raw sewage finding its way into River Sal tributaries and demanded that the village panchayat writes to the Margao Municipal Council and district administration to initiate action against those responsible in discharging sewage.
The villagers also discussed the proper verification of migrants along with the help of the Margao police given the increase in crime involving migrants.
The gram sabha also decided to write to the PWD to submit all plans pertaining to the western bypass and national highway works being carried out in the village. The panchayat said that they asked the department to submit plans but they failed to respond after the villagers drew the attention of the panchayat over the piling work which commenced near Saipem Lake.
The gram sabha also discussed the garbage issue. The gram sabha felicitated a retiring panchayat staff Anthony Fernandes for his services rendered to the village.
