Navelim Villagers Union in quarters

Benaulim: Navelim Villagers Union entered the quarterfinals of 30th Super Soccer defeating United Boys of Dando,Colva 7-6 via the tie breaker  played at St.John,the Baptist grounds,Benaulim on Monday.

The teams played a 1-1 draw during the regulation time. Both the teams dished out a good brand of soccer, displaying good football skills in all the departments of the game. Initially, the teams played a defensive game but as the match progressed, the teams spread the ball well, looking out for gaps in each other’s territory to try and find the mark. Despite having some good chances, the teams could not score in the first session.

Navelim started the second session on an attacking note and went into the lead midway in this half following a defensive lapse by United Boys of Dando,Colva and opportunist medio of Navelim Rovan Pereira ,who was lurking inside the box, took full advantage of the situation and slammed the ball in with an angular effort after receiving  a pass was from the left flank.

United Boys of Dando,Colva retaliated thereafter  and after latching on to some meticulous moves restored parity through Denislon Fernandes. The teams made several goal bound moves, but the defense of both the teams stood firm. As the teams were involved in a dead-lock, the tie breaker system had to be adopted to decide the winners in which Navelim Villagers Union proved to be the better shooters.
