The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) recently celebrated 37th foundation day and hosted the regional advisory group meeting. Addressing members of the advisory group Kamakshi S. Pai, general manager, said that, NABARD intends to demonstrate integrated farming system for increasing farmers’ income and would be rededicating itself for the cause of rural development with interventions in all the thrust areas. Some of the thrust areas include ssupporting projects adapting to the impact of climate change, setting up of seed bank, conservation of biodiversity, solid waste treatment plant and construction of individual sanitary toilets, digitization of SHGs, developing SHGs as community based organisations and sectoral development through Area Development Schemes.
The event had a battery of interesting guest speakers. ST Kannan, general manager, RBI- Goa, released a booklet on ‘Role of NABARD in Goa 2016-18’ while, Ajit Trikannad, chairman, Vinyas Hydro Technologies, spoke on devices that mimic nature. Progressive farmer Kavita Mishra, a national award winner, Raichur district, Karnataka, shared her experience on integrated farming System. She said that her farm has over 8,000 various species of plants, 15 indigenous cows, 10 sheep and some poultry birds. She said that her 8-acre farm is valued at Rs 100 crore today. Senior officials of NABARD present at the occasion included, N Narayana Raju, assistant general manager, who introduced the guest speakers and conducted the event.
