Musical tribute to Maruti Kurdekar to be held

The 11th edition of ‘Pandit Maruti Kurdekar Sangeet Samelan’ will be held on November 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Institute Menezes Braganza (IMB), Panaji. The one-day concert is being organised by students of late Pandit Maruti Kurdekar in collaboration with IMB and Directorate of Art and Culture, in memory of the late Maruti Kurdekar.

Addressing a press conference on Monday in Panaji, president, Gomantak Maratha Samaj Goa, Gorakh Mandrekar said: “Kurdekar was a senior professor in table at the faculty of Indian Music and Dance at Kala Academy for 27 years and he trained several students in tabla. Thus to mark his death anniversary, we host a day-long musical concert every year.”

Chief guest for the same will be Indian vocalist, Prasad Sawkar while guest honour will be chairman, IMB, Sanjay Harmalkar. Senior tabla maestro, Balkrishna Amonkar will be honoured on the occasion.

Various vocal and instrumental artistes including one national artiste will entertain the audience. A tabla session by Premanand Amonkar and Gautami Amonkar will be held at 10 a.m. followed by a flute performance by Aditya Joshi and a singing concert.

A drama by Praveen Shilkar and Archana Kamulkar will be held at 3:30 p.m. followed by an independent tabla performance by Nayan Ghosh and sitar artiste Manbhadas Sattarwad at 4:30 p.m. All of them will be a

ccompanied by musicians Premnand Amonkar, Dattaraj Mahalshis, Pandurang Gavas, Vats Kalagi, Prasad Gavas, Tukaram Govekar and

Amar Mopkar.
