The much-needed multi-storey parking project in Margao will be completed by May 30, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai has assured.
Sardesai was speaking at the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) where he heard the grievances of the people of Fatorda over files pertaining to the trade licences and construction activities getting delayed allegedly by the technical section of the MMC. He was also annoyed over the increase in MMC arrears.
After the 45-minute-long meeting, Sardesai said, “Justice delayed is justice denied. People are approaching me with complaints. People mostly had problems with the water, electricity and title clearance of the commercial establishments. I have told the chairperson and the chief office of the MMC to speed up the work and that there should be no further complaints.”
The minister further said, “The multi-level parking project cannot be further delayed. We wanted it to be completed by May 30,” he disclosed after having a word with the contractor, who had expressed his inability to complete the project on the grounds that with GST, it is not viable.
Visibly upset after hearing a couple citizens over the delay in clearing of the files, Sardesai said, “The MMC has a habit of delaying files on the pretext of seeking legal advice. This should not be the case. Let the advocate be in the MMC office. You (referring to the chief officer) should make arrangement in this regard.”
Sardesai said that the coalition government is firm on having a common cadre for all the municipal employees. He said, “The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who holds the portfolio of urban development, is firm on having a common cadre. In the next six months, an amendment will be brought in this
Earlier, the minister paid tributes to the former chief minister and his mentor Dr Wilfred D’Souza, by garlanding his portrait.
