As part of Environment Management Plan (MMP), the Mormugao Port Trust has procured a mounted mist cannon fog machine and portable mist cannon machine of dust suppression system at a cost of Rs 47.84 lakh with an aim to ensure clean and dust-free environment in the port area and surrounding localities.
The vehicles have been procured under the scheme of Green Port and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. They are indigenous built machines promoting the Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The vehicles were launched in the presence of MPT chairman I Jeyakumar, deputy chairman G P Rai, heads of departments, executives of the Port and e representatives of Excel Combine at a function held at berth no-10 and 11 recently.
Speaking on the occasion, MPT chairman Jeyakumar said that “MPT is committed to maintaining the port and other localities clean and green.”
The mist cannon fog machine is provided with high speed turbine electrical motor to rotate high speed specially designed fan for throwing the mist to 40-50 meters distance under no wind conditions. The finest fog created shall produce high percentage of droplets in the range of 25-200 microns. The system consumes the water in the range of 40-125 litres per minute. The dust suppression system procured will help in reducing and controlling the dust generation within the permissible limits.
These equipment (truck mounted and portable) will be used to mitigate and suppress the airborne fine dust of coal, iron ore, bauxite, lime stone, clinkers, fertiliser, wood chips and other cargoes while handling and stacking inside the port operational area.
