PANAJI: Congress party on Monday alleged that post-Independence Rafale deal is the biggest scam in the country’s defence sector.
Coming out with this charge, national spokesperson of Indian National Congress Priyanka Chaturvedi demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should break his silence on this deal and come out clear on the details of it.
Addressing a press conference in the city, Chaturvedi questioned as to whether the prime minister would explain why an extra amount of Rs 41,205 crore is being paid from public money, as related to this deal. “Why did Modi reduce the number of fighter aircraft required for Indian Air Force from 126 to 36,” she questioned.
“When the Rafale deal was signed, the current Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was the defence minister, and he was not even present in France when this deal was being signed,” she said, adding “Forget his presence, Parrikar had not even been prepared for the prime minister’s announcement, and was caught off guard.”
The press briefing was a part of month-long nationwide campaign taken up by the Congress against the Rafale fighter aircraft deal which, the party claimed, was altered to benefit prime minister’s industrialist “friend” and “promote crony capitalism”.
