VASCO: Mithila Samaj Vasco celebrated its 7th anniversary recently, at Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco. People belonging to Mithilanchal areas working in various parts of Goa and their families including children participated in the programme.
The highlights of the programme were Jijia dance, Maithili songs, children’s dance and poetry.
Maithili and Konkani languages were recognised in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
Maithili is popular as one of the sweetest languages in India. The legends of Mithilanchal are well known poets such as Valmiki who wrote Ramayan, Mandan Mishra, Bharti, Vidyaptati of the 12th century whose poems influenced the writings of Rabindranath Tagore, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Fanishwar Nath Renu and many more.
Mithila paintings are also well known art all over the world.
Members of the Mithila Samaj presently consist of people of Mithilanchal region working in Goa with interest in arts and cultural heritage of Mithilanchal.
