Mining dependants wind up Delhi sit-in protest

The three-day sit-in protest staged by the Goa Mining People’s Front at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi concluded on Thursday evening.

The mining dependants were in the national capital from April 9 to press for their demand of early resumption of mining operations in Goa.

GMPF convenor Puti Gaonkar told this reporter that over 500 mining dependants participated in this three-day sit-in-protest held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. He said that the mining dependants were there at the national capital to seek attention of the Central authorities. “We have been appealing before the authorities to save 3 lakh mining dependants who are facing economic death by restarting mining activities immediately,” he said.

Now, GMFP expects positive outcome from the matter pending before the Supreme Court which is likely to come for hearing in coming week.
