Milind Naik administers oath to GRERA chief

Panaji: Minister for Urban Development Milind Naik administered the oath of office and secrecy to S Kumaraswamy, IAS (retired), who has been appointed as the chairperson of the Goa Real Estate Regulatory Authority (GRERA).

The Centre has enacted the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 and all the sections of the Act came into force with effect from March 25, 2016 in Goa. It is an Act to establish the Real Estate Regulatory Authority for regulation and promotion of the real estate sector and to ensure sale of plot, apartment or building, as the case may be, or sale of real estate project, in an efficient and transparent manner. The Act focuses on protecting the interest of consumers in the real estate sector and establishing an adjudicating mechanism for speedy dispute redressal.

Naik expressed his satisfaction over appointment of competent person as a chairperson of GRERA.

The chairperson shall have powers of general superintendence and directions in the conduct of the affairs of GRERA and he is expected to preside over the meetings of the Authority, exercise and discharge such administrative powers and functions of the Authority as may be prescribed in the said Act.

Later, S Kumaraswamy administered the oaths of office and secrecy on same day to J B Singh, IAS (retired), who has been appointed as the member of the Goa Real Estate Regulatory Authority.

Speaking to media, Milind Naik said that experience of J B Singh, who joined Goa Civil Service on the recommendation of UPSC and worked at various positions before getting elevated to IAS in the year 2007, will help Authority to function smoothly.

J B Singh worked as a collector of South Goa, commissioner of excise, MD KTC, MD IDC, director of mines. He also worked in various capacities under the Union Territory Daman, Diu, Andaman Nicobar Island and National Capital Territory of Delhi.
