In the second round of the 2nd Goa International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament Goa’s Anurag Mhamal and Fide Master Nitish Belurkar maintained their winning momentum in the tournament played at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao on Wednesday.
Playing with a queen, Anurag was pitted against Fide Master Wagh Suyog, where Anurag penetrated into the second rank in the 20th move.
On the other board, Nitish Belurkar played against Querishi, where he slowly advanced from an equal position and manoeuvred the end game to achieve a fine technical victory.

Meanwhile, Ritviz Parab drew with Anil Kumar OT while Niraj Saripalli won against Arpan Das. Leon Mendonca and Nandhini lost their respective encounters and are on 1 point each.
At the end of round 5 in Category B, Sairaj Dilip Vernekar (1591) has 3.5 points and sits on 88th position while Anirudh Parsekar and Reuban Colaco are also with 3.5 points. In the Womenc category, Chess Master (WCM) Gunjal Chopdekar, Aryan Shamrao, Ehtan Vaz, Saish Fondekar, Swayam Naik and Lad Mandar Pradip are on 3 points.
