PONDA: Administrator of Goa Dairy Damodar Morajkar finally suspended Dr N C Sawant from the post of managing director (MD) on Friday evening through an order passed by him.
Morajkar has given the charge of managing director to Dr R B Dhuri for the smooth functioning of Goa Dairy.
Following the suspension order, a disciplinary inquiry has been initiated against Dr Sawant for irregularities and corrupt practices followed by him. As per the administrator’s order, Dr Sawant has
been asked to report to the Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Ponda office, during the period of his suspension. The order also states that during the suspension period, Dr Sawant will be entitled to a subsistence allowance as per the existing rules.
“Following the directions of the Registrar of Co-operative Societies (RCS) and taking note of the High Court order refusing to grant interim stay on the suspension of MD, I have ordered suspension of Dr Sawant from the post of MD and Dr Dhuri has been asked to take charge of his duties until further orders,” said Morajkar speaking to this daily.
Meanwhile, Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies Pankaj Marathe has handed over all the seized documents of Goa Dairy to the administrator following the RCS order.
It may be noted that the government had dissolved the board of directors of Goa Dairy over irregularities and mismanagement, appointing senior government officer Damodar Morajkar as the administrator of the Dairy. The administrator had been asked to place Sawant under suspension for the irregularities and corrupt practices and terminate him accordingly. The RCS had passed an order according to which he had disqualified seven directors of the Dairy.
Sawant and others approached the High Court pleading to quash and set aside the order of RCS directing Morajkar to suspend him. But on Thursday, the High Court refused to grant interim stay on the suspension of Dr Sawant.
