Mauvin assures taximen of dedicated counter at airport

The Minister for Panchayati Raj Mauvin Godinho on Thursday assured members of the United Taximen Union who operate their yellow black cabs from Dabolim airport that he would resolve their parking issue in totality and provide them a dedicated taxi counter.

The members of the UTU called on the Panchayati Raj Minister at Dabolim BJP office at New-Vaddem to highlight their grievances on Thursday morning. The UTU president Sanjay Naik briefed the minister about issues which needs to be given priority.

“There are many issues which need to be sorted out at Dabolim airport. Recently when the new aerobridges were inaugurated AAI had listed a lot of issues at the airport. As the local MLA, I have taken up issues on priority basis and a major  issue was the parking problems which have been existing for the past several years”, said Godinho.

There is absolutely confusion as far as parking is concerned and the multi-level-car parking facility which the AAI had put in place is not yet operational and it is expected to be commissioned by July this year”, said Godinho.

“Currently, people are using the open areas for parking facility and we want to develop it into a modern parking. The only issue is to connect these parking facilities, so we are proposing bridges over the railway track. We want to solve the entire parking problem in totality”, informed Godinho.

“Today the taxi operators under the banner of UTU had met me and put forth their grievances about a dedicated taxi counter, and parking issue at the Dabolim Airport. Though I have heard their grievances many times, I feel that their grievances are genuine. Now the tourism department is trying to merge their counter with the tourist taxi operators because AAI claims that they cannot give the yellow black cabs a separate counter”, said Godinho.

The Panchayati Raj Minister also reiterated that he has plans to beautify the entire area outside the airport according to world standards.

Godinho was of the opinion that the work on grade separator is nearing completion. “Once this work is done then we will give a boost to beautification of the area on both sides. We will try to combine the grade separator project inauguration with the multilevel parking. Beautification will take a little time but will be completed in one and half year’s time. Similarly we have plans to build more toilets for public outside the airport” informed Godinho.
