Margao SC entered the finals of 22nd Dando Boys Cup football tournament defeating St Rock Youth Club, Majorda 6-5 via tie-breaker in the semifinals played at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Tuesday.
The teams were held to a 1-1 draw in the regulation time.
Both the teams had two chances each in the first half. While St Rock Youth Club, Majorda were successful in converting one of their chances, Margao SC failed to do so due to their wayward
The Majorda team into the lead in the 25th minute when their attacking medio J Mendes, after receiving a nice assist, sped down the right flank and after taking two rival defenders in his strike bulged the nets with an angular effort to beat Margao SC keeper Swizel Pereira.
Margao SC thereafter retaliated with some brilliant moves, but the rival keeper Roland proved to be a safe pair of
Margao SC levelled the score in the 32nd minute from a Joel Colaco strike that gave no chance at all to the Majorda keeper.
In the resulting tie-breaker, Margao SC proved to be the better shooters as they scored through Valito Miranda, John Colaco, Roque Dias, Cavin Araujo and Clencio Pinto.
St Rock Youth Club, Majorda could find the mark only through J Mendes, Cavin Almeida, J Dias and Roger Pereira.
Margao SC will meet St Anthony’s SC, Assolda in the finals scheduled for July 15.
