MUMBAI: A 30-year-old man from Goa allegedly committed suicide on Sunday near the Mumbai international airport in suburban Andheri, soon after he landed here from Dubai, police said.
The deceased, identified as Manuel Pareira (33), was found hanging from a pipe at a nullah with a nylon rope on Sunday morning near the Sahar International Airport, the police said.
"It is an isolated location, where Pareira committed suicide. Except his passport, no luggage was found at the place, where he ended his life," Mr G Bhusare, sub-inspector at Sahar airport police station told PTI.
As per the passport details, Pareira landed here from Dubai at about 5 a.m., Mr Bhusare said adding that he was a resident of Margao in Goa.
"We are going through the CCTV footages at the airport to establish his movements since his landing. The footages will help us know if he had interacted with anybody after landing or carried any luggage with him," Mr Bhusare said.
A social activist and former corporator, Mr Nicholas Almeida in Andheri said he had conveyed the details of the incident to the people, whom he knew in Goa, who subsequently informed the family members of the deceased.
The body was taken to the nearby civic-run Cooper hospital for postmortem, the police said adding the reason for his suicide is not yet clear.
