Mapusa doctor booked for cheating

MAPUSA: Taking cognisance of a complaint by director of health services, Mapusa police have booked a doctor from a Peddem hospital for cheating a 56-year-old woman.

According to police, director of health services Dr Sanjiv Dalvi had on Monday evening lodged a complaint that prior to August 3 at Vrundavan Shalby Hospital, Mapusa, Dr Sharad Bhat dishonestly induced Sarita Kankonkar to undergo knee replacement surgery at the hospital by promising good services but failed to keep his word.

According to the complaint, the accused is not registered with the Goa Board of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy and nor under Goa Medical Practitioner Act 2004. Police have also booked the doctor for practicing without any registration.

An offence under Section 420 of IPC and sections 3, 5 read with 15 of the Goa Medical Practitioner Act has been registered against the doctor and investigations are underway. PI Tushar Lotlikar said that they will summon all doctors, other staff and management of the hospital.
