Medio Jesloy Moniz of Youth Club, Manora sent the ball past Sesa Football Academy’s keeper in the first half giving the team an all important lead. Contribution was not limited to strikers alone but keeper Agnelo Noronha’s role within the box could not go unnoticed as Manora registered a 1-0 win against Sesa Football Academy in the GFA’s Geno First Division Football League match played at artificial grounds, Fatorda on Thursday.
The all important goal in favour of Youth Club of Manora team came off when central midfielder Francisco Andrade dodged two Sesa defenders and laid a slicing pass to Jesloy Moniz who lost no time in sending an angular volley to beat the rival keeper Roanal Gaunkar.
This was in fact the only chance that Youth Club of Manora team had throughout the proceedings and they made the most of it by slotting the ball in the rival nets accurately to collect full points for the day.
Sesa Football Academy players were not mellowed down and their attitude on field was evident that they wanted to equalise as soon as possible; this was observed in both halves of the game. But it was Manora’s keeper Agnelo Noronha who halted all their attempts to change the score; his efforts handed him the man-of-the-match title of the day.
Right from the commencing whistle till the 23rd minute, Sesa seemed to be the dominant side as they let unleashed a barrage of attacks onto the Manora goal post. Their charge was insufficient to breach Agnelo’s defence as he would not give the strikers Kunal Salgaonkar and Rahish Khan an opportunity to change the equilibrium of the game.
Suddenly, Youth Club of Manora counter attacked and the break-away move proved to be the only good chance of finding the mark through Jesloy Moniz as he sent a cracker of a shot to beat the Sesa Football Academy keeper.
The goal that put Sesa Football Academy on back foot had a telling effect on the team as they lost their rhythm, giving way to Youth Club of Manora to begin attacking but without finding the mark for the remainder of the game.
Manora’s defence managed by Valito Miranda, Arnold Rodrigues and Akram Yadward played their hearts out to keep the marauding Sesa Football Academy strikers at bay in both sessions.
Sesa Football Academy exerted tremendous pressure on Youth Club of Manora in the last quarter of the match and did everything right except scoring as they could not convert a single chance out of the many that came their way due to the heroics displayed by keeper Agnelo Noronha. Sesa threw in Jawad P P, Lionel D’Souza to increase pressure and try and get the equaliser but that went in vain.
In the add on time of five minutes of play Sessa Football Academy almost levelled the score as they went all out for the kill, but the Manora keeper was a hard nut to crack under the bar.
In another match at Sirsaim ground, St Savio SC scored a narrow 2-1 win over Goa Police SC. At half time the winners led by 1-0.
Elsewhere, A.A de Moira failed to turn up in a game which was to be held at Ambelim ground against Salgaocar FC. This benefitted the Salgaocar side to gain all three points.
