PORVORIM: The biggest mall in North Goa, Mall De Goa was inaugurated at the hands of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday at Porvorim.
The chairman of Jai Bhuvan Builders Sadanand Sheth welcomed the dignitaries. In his speech Sheth recollected how he rose from a humble beginning by selling peanuts at a theatre hall in Mumbai to a mall owner. He said that his education was only SSC since he could not afford to pay his fees. Sheth said that the plot of land was bought in 1990 and it took him five years to complete the project with honesty and hard work.
Parrikar while speaking to the gathering said that he was proud to see Sadanand Sheth speaking about his early life. The Defence Minister said that Mall De Goa will cater to North Goa and the multiplex was most sought after by residents. He said that the mall has ample space for parking unlike the mall at Panaji.
Parrikar criticised Goans for objecting to good projects like the third Mandovi bridge, garbage treatment plant and the Defence Expo. Parrikar said that Goans will see the Defence Expo for only four days in a year wherein more than one lakh visitors will visit the expo.
He said that more than 300 crore business will be transacted with the active participation of more than 44 countries.
The other dignitaries present were Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Panaji MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte.
The director of Mall De Goa Rajesh Sheth proposed the vote of thanks.
