Mairon Fernandes and Joy Hilario scored a goal each as Maina SC defeated Fr Agnelo Youth Club, Paroda 2-0 to enter the quarterfinals of Curtorim Villagers Cup football tournament, at church grounds, Curtorim on Monday.

Maina SC started the match on an attacking note and took the lead in the 10th minute as Joywin Carneiro sped down the flank and passed the ball to Mairon Fernandes, whose angular effort gave no chance at all to the Fr Agnelo YC keeper Melvino Lima.

After scoring their first goal, Maina SC kept charging in but were not able to buttress their lead in the first half as their strikers were tightly marked by the defenders of Paroda team.

The second session saw Paroda stitch good moves mainly through striker Manish Oliveira and Kanchan Kiro, who almost levelled the score, but the Maina SC keeper Christo Hilario demonstrated great courage to foil their attempts.

Maina SC finally succeeded in scoring their second goal in the 70th minute when James Noronha made a dash for the loose ball and after dodging two rival defenders passed the ball to a better-placed Joy Hilario who banged it in past the bewildered Paroda keeper.
