SANKHALI: Devotees in large numbers on Monday thronged temples across the state on Mahashivratri and worshiped Lord Shiva, also called the destroyer of evil. Devotees also chanted Shiva mantras and sang songs to worship the Lord.

A large number of devotees flocked to the Rudreshwar Temple in Harvalem-Sanquelim which is very famous across the state. The celebrations started early morning with rituals like ‘Rudrabhishek’.

At Harvalem and Narve temples, queues were seen from as early as 4 am. Before the worship, devotees were seen taking bath near the Harvalem waterfall and then offered ‘Abhishek’ to Lord Shiva. Several stalls of different kinds were also put up in the area.

The people also visited the nearby Harvalem caves to enjoy its beauty. Several politicians also sought blessings in the temple. Foreign tourists were also seen at the site, as they clicked photos of the age-old temple and purchased items from the many vendors outside.
