St Anthony’s down Cavelossim
MARGAO: Second half powerful strikes by Jovisco Fernandes and Canito Vaz helped St Anthony’s SC Colva down Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and storm into the semifinals of Chinchinim-Deussua Panchayat Cup football tournament played at church grounds, Chinchinim on Wednesday. After a barren first half, St Anthony’s SC Colva, in the second half, put up tremendous pressure and scored two quick goals. The first goal came through Jovisco who beat rival keeper after receiving a neat pass from M Hilario. And very quickly Canito unleashed a power-packed volley after Dylon Lawrence passed the ball to him.
Manovikas, Marina advance
MARGAO: Manovikas English Medium HS Margao and Marina English HS Verna chalked out win in their respective matches to move ahead in the inter-school under-17 football tournament, organised by DSYA and played at Manora grounds on Wednesday. Manvikas registered a solitary-goal win against Holy Spirit Institute Margao with Michel Colaso scoring the match winner, while the other match saw Marina English scoring an emphatic 2-0 win against St Mary’s HS Varca.
Curtorim Gym’s Golden Jubilee Cup
MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana will be organising ‘Curtorim Gymkhana Golden Jubilee Cup’, an all-Goa inter-village football tournament from August 29 at Curtorim Church grounds. In all 16 top teams will be participating in the tournament. As per the GFA rules and regulations all matches will start at 4.30 pm. In the inaugural match Immaculate Conception SC Paroda will clash with St Rock Youth Club Calata, Majorda.
Mormugao Utd prevail over St Rock’s YC
MARGAO: Mormugao United beat St Rock’s Youth Club Majorda 5-3 via tie-breaker to enter the semis of the Prime Coastal Cup soccer tournament , organised by Prime SC and played at St John the Baptist ground Benaulim. The teams played a 1-1 draw during the normal time. In the tie-breaker, Mormugao United converted through Uday Naik, Preetesh Mayenkar, Paulo Sequiera and Tanvir Bepari, while Sadiq Ahmed and Matthew Colaco found the mark for St Rock’s Majorda.
