Triple gold for Anura

PANAJI: Goa’s Anura Prabhu Desai clinched triple gold – winning women’s singles, doubles and team championship — in the 66th All India Railways Badminton Championships 2018. In women’s singles final, Anura defeated Riya Mokerjee 21-19, 19-21, 21-7; in women’s doubles final, she and her partner Kanika Kanwal defeated Riya Mookerjee and P Sonika Sai, while in team championship final Anura’s team Northern Railways defeated Central Railways 2-1.

Navelim SC edge PVC Parra

CALANGUTE: Navelim Sporting Club advanced in the Late Anthony & Santana Carvalho Memorial Soccer Cup, organised by St Savio’s SC, Calangute, after getting the better of PVC SC, Parra 2-1 at Calangute Association grounds, Calangute on Friday. Navelim Sporting took the lead in the 23rd minute off a header by Prestly Gomes, while in the 43rd minute they doubled their lead through Climax Lawrence. PVC Parra reduced the deficit as Atish Mirajkar found the mark in the 49th minute.

Goa men secure hat-trick of wins

PANAJI: Goa men’s team completed a hat-trick by winning all their three league matches on day one of the All India Tennis Ball Cricket Championship being held in Tamil Nadu, on Friday. In their opening game, Goa defeated Andaman & Nicobar by five wickets; in the second they thrashed Rajasthan by 54 runs and in the third match they got the better of Vidarbha by seven wickets. In the remaining league matches, Goa men will play MP, Karnataka, Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu.
