Chandor SC pip Mormugao
Chinchinim: Chandor Sports Club entered the quarterfinals of 21st Our Lady of Merces Football Tournament defeating Mormugao United SCC 2-1 played at Chinchinim grounds on Friday. It was the team from Mormugao that went into the lead with Basurajan Harijan finding the mark in the 18th minute. However, Chandor Sports Club came back strong and scored through Moises D’Sain the 40th minute and Irfan Yadwad in the 50th minute.
Curtorim escape Siolim by a whisker
MARDOL: Curtorim Gymkhana beat St Anthony Marna, Siolim 4-3 to move into quarters of 33rd Mardol Trophy organised by United Sports Club of Mardol played at Mardol grounds. Milagrese Fernandes scored in 10th minute for Curtorim making the score 1-0 with a stiff grounder. Nelson Fernandes scored the second goal through well executed free kick in 17th minute for Curtorim. Milagrese scored another goal in 35th minute going up 3-0. In second half St Anthony’s pulled one back through of Vipul Pednekar in 55th minute. Milagrese fernandes scored his hat-trick in 57th min. A minute later Pushpraj made it 4-2 for Siolim side. Claudio’s brilliance made it 4-3 for Siolim side. Curtorim gymkhana now meet host United Sports Club of Mardol in quarters.
Women Leagues starts on August 14
PANAJI: The second Women’s Football League 2018-19 organised by Goa football Association (GFA) and sponsored by Vedanta is slated to start on August 14. Matches will be played at the artificial ground in Fatorda and Duler stadium in Mapusa. Matches are to be scheduled at Cuncolim, Ambelim, Sirssaim after the monsoons says a press release by Vedanta. There will be one match per week says the press release.
Mushtifund HSS earn laurels in badminton
Mapusa: Mushtifund High school students won the Tiswadi Badminton tournament organized by Directorate of Sports at Indoor stadium at campal. Rudra Phadte won the singles title defeating Vyaas of Red Rosary in U-14 category, 21-6, 21-11. Similarly in the other singles Vedant Chauhan defeated Yohaan of Red Rosary by 22-20, 21- 17. In the semi-final Mushtifund High school outplayed Fr Agnel Pillar 2-0. In the U-14 girls and U-17 badminton team, Mushtifund High school secured runners up position.
