St Andrew’s, Navy School secure thumping wins
VASCO: In the Subrato Cup (Mormugao zone), played at Tilak Ground Mormugao, St Andrew’s Higher Secondary (Vasco) defeated Deepvihar High School (Sada) 3-1 in the U-17 match. Goals for St Andrew’s was scored by Agustin Menezes, Rosall Gosavi and Climax Fernandes. In the other match, Navy Children’s School, Dabolim outplayed OUr Lady of Perpetual Succor, cortalim 4-1, with Nanu Sidesh scoring a brace along with Dwayne Neto, Pushkar Yadav who added goals to secure a win for Our Lady. In the U-14 category, Deepvihar High School (Sada) beat Our Lady of Desterro, Vasco 4-1.
Goa Velha beat Nerul in high scorer
PANAJI: In a tight contested match, Goa Velha beat Nerul SC 12-11 in a tie breaker to move into quarters of Mardol Trophy 2018 played at Mardol grounds on Saturday. Sidharth Shirodkar opened the account for Nerul in 5th minute. In 15th minute Akash Banaulikar’s brilliant shot made it 2-0. Goa Velha pulled one back through Chatur Naik. In 25th minute Sidharth Shirodkar made it 3-1 for Goa Velha. Nerul made a comeback through Chandan Gawas leaving the scoreline 4-2 at half time. In second half Goa Velha sent two more goals past Nerul’s keeper though Arun Naik and Francis Fernandes to level the score 4-4. In the tie breakar Goa Velha proved to be the better shooters winning the match 12-11.
United Boys script a comeback win
Benaulim: United Boys of Dando-Colva entered the semifinals of 14th Super Soccer defeating Varca SC 2-1 played at St John the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Saturday. It was the Varca SC team that shot into the lead through Nash Pereira in the 16th minute of play. United Boys of Dando–Colva who took some time to settle, retaliated with some dangerous looking raids and scored through Swtzer Chele in the 30th minute and Conrad Fernandes 48th minute to come from behind a register a stunning win.
Rossman Cruz enter St Anne’s final
PONDA: Rossman Cruz Verna defeated CDJ Ribandar 3-2 via tie-breaker to enter the final of 30th All Goa St Anne’s Festival Soccer 2018 played at Animal Husbandry ground Curti, Ponda. The semi-finals ended in a goalless draw at the end of regular time. In the tie-breaker Myron, Vijal and Hilton scored for Verna while Salu and Rohan scored Ribandar.

Nandhini secures strong lead
PANAJI: At the end of the 5th round of the Late Shripad Vishnu Tarcar Memorial State Women’s Chess Championship being played at Athletic Stadium Cujira Bambolim, top seed Nandhini Saripalli leads with 5 points. She won all her 3 rounds on Saturday by defeating Girija Pednekar in the 3rd round, Aishwarya Thorat in the 4th and WCM Swera Braganca in 5th round. Tanvi Hadkonkar, WCM Gunjal Chopdekar and AIM Sayuri Naik are in joint 2nd position with 4.5 points.
Ethan Vaz continues winning streak
PANAJI: At the 32nd National Under-7 Chess Championship 2018 underway at Tumkur, Karnataka, Ethan Vaz of Goa continued his winning streak and won one more point in the 8th round, taking his tally to 6 points, by checkmating Sathyachith E M of Kerala after a tough fight that lasted for over 3 hours. At the end of round 8, Ethan Vaz leads the Goa team in the Open category and Jenica Sequeira leads in the Girls category with 6 points each.
