Chapora wilt under Goa Velha’s pressure

DULER: Goa Velha Sports Club registered a convincing 3-1 win over Chapora Yuvak Sangh to advance into the quarters of the Milagres Soccer Cup 2018, organised by Milagres Sports Club, played at Duler stadium on Saturday. Goa Velha took lead in the 30th minute by Arun Naik with a neat placement, 1-0. On crossing ends Goa Velha carried on their onslaught and hammered two more goals in the 58th and 64th minute from the boots of Chatur Naik and Francis Fernandes who both scored from inside the penalty box, 3-0. Chapora’s striker Saprem Diukar scored in the 70th minute with a power-packed right footer, 3-1. In the first quarterfinals CDJ Ribandar will take on Saligao Sporting club on 26th June, 2018.

Goa men, women are tennis ball cricket champs

PANAJI: Goa’s men and women teams have emerged champions in the All India Tennis Ball Cricket Championship held at Sundernagar, Himachal Pradesh from June 21-23. The men met Uttar Pradesh in the final where they 40/2 in 6 overs and in response the northern state fell short by 10 runs with 30/6 on the score board. The women fought Maharashtra in their final, where Maharashtra were all out for 19 runs and the target was chased by the eves in just 2.1 overs.

U-15 rapid chess tourney on Jul 1

PANAJI: Fatorda Parents Chess Club Fatorda, will be organizing Salcete Taluka U-15 Rapid Chess Tournament on July 1, at PJN Stadium hall Fatorda. The tournament is open for chess players from Salcete taluka only. The tournament will be played as per the Swiss league system in 7 rounds. Only 100 entries will be accepted as first come first serve bases. Last date of submitting entry with the entry fee of Rs. 150/- is June 29, after which no entry will be entertained.

Tanvi, Gunjal take consolation in U-13 chess nationals

PANAJI: Tanvi Vasudev Hadkonkar and Woman Chess Master (WCM) Gunjal Chopdekar fought their way up in final rounds and bagged the third and fourth respectively at the 32nd National U-13 Girls Chess Championship, organised by Gujarat State Chess Association, in Gujarat, on Friday.
