St Anthony’s Marna enter Calangute P’yat Cup final

CALANGUTE: St Anthony’s SC, Marna entered the finals of Calangute Panchayat Soccer Cup 2018, organised by Calangute Association, as they squeezed past Goa Velha 2-1 in the semifinals played at Poriat grounds, here on Tuesday. St Anthony’s SC, Marna scored first as Siddharth Shirodkar struck in the 4th minute. Goa Velha levelled terms through Yogendra Thapa just before the breather. In the 45th minute on crossing over, Mandekar scored St Anthony’s SC, Marna’s second goal which ultimately proved to be the match winner as Marna won 2-1 and sealed their berth in the final.

St Anthony’s Boys advance

CANDOLIM: St Anthony’s Boys, Orda edged out Ana Vaddo 1-0 in the Friends Circle Soccer Cup 2018 fixture played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro grounds, here on Tuesday. Orda lads shot into the lead in the 20th minute as Augustine Fernandes collected a pass from Sebastian Gonsalves and intelligently placed the over the advancing Anawaddo keeper Chetan. Ten minutes later, Ana Vaddo had two glorious chances to net the equaliser, but Savio and Prakash failed to make the most of the opportunities.

Asian Bridge: India mixed team takes lead

PANAJI: The Indian mixed team performed well to gain 44.52 points and secure top position after the completion of three rounds in the 3rd Asian Bridge Championship, on Tuesday. In men’s category, Hong Kong has taken the lead with 47.81 points while Indian team stays on 6th position. In women’s category, Australia took the top spot tallying 37.35 points after two rounds while India women are on 4th place with 21.67 points.

Davorlim down Cansaulim

BENAULIM: Sporting Club of Davorlim entered the quarterfinals of Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup football tournament defeating CAC Cansaulim 3-1, at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Tuesday. All the goals were scored in the second half as the first half remained all barren. SC Davorlim took the lead through Valmiki Miranda in the 45th minute, and four minutes doubled the lead from a goal from Paxton Gomes. CAC Cansaulim pulled a goal back ten minutes from the final hooter as Ashley Soares scored from the spot kick. And with the match nearing to its end, SC Davorlim made the issue safe after substitute striker Mabel Miranda scored their third goal.
