PYSC Vagator enter semis
NERUL: PYSC Vagator entered the semis of the Nerul Soccer Cup, organised by Nerul Sports Club, with a solitary-goal win over St Anthony’s SC Marna at Nerul grounds on Tuesday. The all-important goal for the Vagator side came in the 27th minute of the first session through Jesmon Carvalho, who scored with a neat placement.

Milagres down Merces
MANDREM: Milagres SC, Mapusa had to wait for the penalty shootout before getting the better of Merces FC 4-2 and enter the next round match of the Mandrem Boys Soccer Cup, organised by Dunes SC Mandrem and played at Mandrem grounds, Tuesday. The teams were locked 1-1 at the end of the regulation time. While Merces scored through Jyendra Kunolikar, Lester Martins netted for Milagres SC. In the tie-breaker, Edwin Viegas, Sapnesh Gaonkar and Andre were on target for Milagres whereas only Octavio Miranda could find the net for Merces.

Assonora Utd edge SMD Taleigao
CANDOLIM: Assonora United FC registered a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sao Miguel de Taleigao to enter the quarterfinals of the Saligao United Cup, organised by Saligao United Club and played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro grounds, Candolim on Tuesday. Rajesh Salgaocar scored the match-winner for the Assonora team.

GFA’s D License coaching courses
PANAJI: Goa Football Association will be conducting a series of All India Football Federation recognised D-License Certificate Courses in June 2016 at the Duler Stadium. The courses will be held on following dates — Course 1: May 30 – June 4; Course 2: June 6 – June 11; Course 3: June 13-June 18; Course 4: June 20-June 25; Course 5: June 27-July 2. Aspiring football coaches who are interested in attending the course are requested to submit the following: Completed application form (may be collected from the GFA Office), Two passport size photographs, Medical Fitness Certificate from a recognised medical practitioner and Course fee of Rs 5,000/- (includes jersey sets, refreshments and AIFF fees).

5-star Neville sends Merces Veterans into semis
ST CRUZ: Riding on a five-goal blitz by Neville Araujo, Merces Veterans thrashed Siolim Veterans 6-1 to book their place in the semifinals of the All Goa Panjim Veterans Soccer Tournament at St Cruz ground. Pascoal Pereira scored the other goal. For Siolim, John struck a goal to reduce the deficit. Shekhar of Siolim was handed the man of the match award by chief guest Mario Fernandes.

Netra Savaikar excels at Sangli chess festival
PONDA: Netra Savaikar, an 8-year-old student of GVM’s Primary School, Ponda won 3rd place in the all India U-8 Open Sangli Chess Festival held from May 14 to 16 at Sangli, Maharashtra. Netra is trained by Wilson Cruz at Champion’s Chess Academy.

Stephen strikes it for PY Nuvem
VELIM: Stephen Colaco’s 50th minute strike in the second session helped Parish Youth, Nuvem overcome Gloria SC Raia 1-0 and enter the quarterfinals of SWC Zaino soccer, at Zaino grounds, Velim on Tuesday. The all-important goal came off when medio Inacio Colaco ran down the left flank and after beating two Gloria SC defenders passed the ball to better-placed Stephen Colaco, whose powerful shot gave no chance at all to the rival keeper Prilio Dias.
