Leon regains lost momentum

Panaji: At the end of Round 8 of the 2nd Goa International Chess Tournament organised by Goa Chess Association at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao, IM Leon Mendonca put up his A game as he outplayed Fide Master Harshal Sahi.

With Leon registering a win, he has five points from a possible eight and has gathered his lost momentum in the tournament. Ritviz Parab on the other hand was held by Lokesh N.

On another board, FIDE Master Nitish Belurkar finished with four points winning against Kamdar Udit. Opting for a French Defence against his opponent his game entered into complication but he overcame the situation and the game ended on a positive note for Nitish.

In the C Category, Goa’s Ayush Pednekar, Anish Naik, Sudheer MK are on 4.5 points at the end of Round 5 while Lal Mandar Pradip and Kevin Gonsalves are on 4 points from possible 5.
