‘The Last Adieu’ and ‘Elizabeth Ekadashi’ open Indian Panorama

Actor Manoj Bajpai inaugurated the Indian Panorama Section of the 45th International Film Festival of India, on November 21, in the presence of director, Directorate of Film Festivals, Shankar Mohan and other film personalities.

Manoj in his address recollected his days at IFFI Delhi where, in his student days, he used to work as a volunteer. “My journey in films started as a volunteer at IFFI, Delhi. More than money, I was excited about the fact that I will get a chance, by squeezing some time from work, to watch some of the best movies”, Bajpai said.

He further appreciated the efforts of IFFI organisers in giving independent and budding Indian filmmakers a platform like Indian Panorama. “In today’s commercial scenario I know how difficult it is to make a film you believe in. This is a great platform for independent filmmakers”, he added.

During the inaugural, filmmakers Shabnam Sukhdev and Paresh Mokashi, whose films ‘The Last Adieu’ and ‘Elizabeth Ekadeshi’, respectively, were the opening films of the Indian Panorama, were felicitated.

Shabnam Sukhdev who made a documentary on her father, Sukhdev, said that it was a difficult film to make. “It was a difficult film to make because I did not know my father. But, I enjoyed the journey, especially learning about the filmmaking process of 1950s and 60s, which was so dynamic,” she stated.

Prior to it, a book that traces the history of Tamil cinema titled, ‘Pride of Tamil Cinema – 1931-2013’ by G Dhananjayan was released at the hands of Manoj Bajpai and Shankar Mohan. The jury of Indian Panorama were also felicitated on the occasion.
