Lamani is second Goan cricket player to complete PhD

Chandu G Lamani, Physical Education Officer at BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus, has been conferred the PhD degree in the recently held 69th Annual Convocation of Karnatak University, Dharwad at the hands of Director General, CSIR and Secretary DSIR, New Delhi Shekhar C Mande and Vice-Chancellor, Karnatak University, Dharwad, Pramod B Gai.

Lamani successfully completed his research thesis titled ‘A Study of Morphological and Motor Fitness of Junior and Senior Cricket Players of Goa’ under the guidance of Pratap Singh Tiwari. Tiwari is the former Vice-Chancellor, Gulbarga University and Director of Sports, Government of Karnataka in the Research Department of Physical Education and Sports Science of Karnatak University, Dharwad.

Lamani is the second Goan cricket player to complete the doctorate degree in Physical Education and Sports Science. Previously, he has represented Goa in Cricket Under-19, Under-22, Under-25; been a part of the Goa University cricket team; represented Goa in School National Games in cricket and Salgaocar Cricket Club in cricket. He completed his BA and B PEd from Goa University and won a Gold Medal for M PEd from Karnatak University, Dharwad.

The thesis is focused on understanding of the structure, function and performance relationships in different sports, including cricket. It allows for improved coaching approaches, development of sport specific fitness and skills training programs, team selections and talent identification in young players.
