Gaurav Gaonkar and Kaushik Desai of Govind Ramnath Kare Law College, Margao won the fourth Advocate Arun Singbal memorial inter higher secondary, college and University level quiz contest organised by Konkani Bhasha Mandal. Ganpat Malik and Divakar Gurav of Government College, Sankhali were runners-up while third place went to Sharat Raikar and Supriya Kankonkar of Goa University. Siddhesh Tari and Purva Vast of Goa University won fourth place. Winners were awarded prizes at the hands of commissioner of Panaji Municipal Corporation and managing director of GSIDC, Sanjit Rodrigues.
Rodrigues lauded KBM’s efforts of organising the competition in order to reach out to the youth. “Our educational syllabus hardly caters to information regarding Goa. How will the next generation learn about our state?” he questioned. “It is necessary to organise such competitions in order to inculcate love for Goa in the next generation,” he said.
Forty three teams took part in the competition that saw twelve teams qualify for the semis. Six teams made it to the finals. The quiz was conducted by Prasann Kamat with his team comprising of Mahim Bhandari, Tanvi Kamat Bambolkar, Kalanand Kamat Bambolkar, Gautami Hede, Damodarraj Kamat Bambolkar and Hrishikesh Kadam.
The quiz was organised in association with last year’s winners Dhempe College and Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji. Present on the occasion were the president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Chetan Acharya, sponsors Advocate Deepa Singbal and Anwesha Singbal, Anju Sakhardande and Konkani professor of Dhempe College.
