Kia Motors firms up Goa presence




With the state having a reputation for strong automobile sales, Korean car company, Kia Motors on Thursday announced its presence to Goan buyers.

The company is in the process of finalising a local dealership and is set to launch its first product, the SP2i, a mid-SUV, during the second half of 2019. The car will roll out from the company’s Anantpur plant located in Andhra Pradesh.

Manhee Cho, senior general manger, sales, Kia Motors India, said, “The construction of our manufacturing facility is complete and we will soon be starting production.”  He added that, the SP2i truly fits into the Make in India segment as it is being manufactured within the country. “It will combine everything that an Indian customer desires in a car with latest technology and sporty design style,” he said.

“Kia Motors is the world’s eighth largest automobile company and will be expanding its portfolio by launching a new model every six months. Currently the company is doing a PAN-India design tour in key markets,” he said.

“We understand the uniqueness of the Indian market in terms of diversity and culture. The SP2i is just the beginning and we will be making a diverse portfolio here in India,” said Cho.

The SP2i is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 15 lakh, although the ex-showroom price is still not announced. “The investment that we are making here shows that India is an important country for us in our global footprints,” reiterated Cho.

Kia Motors reported global sales of 2.8 million cars last year. Officials said that, annually three million cars are produced at 14 manufacturing facilities in five countries.
