VASCO: A fishing trawler from Malpe, Mangalore-Karnataka capsized off Vasco bay near Khariwada shore on Saturday afternoon; however, the crew onboard was rescued.
According to local fishermen, the trawler had ventured into the Arabian sea a couple of days back and while it was off Goa coast, it encountered a technical snag and further, while it was being towed towards the shore with the help of another trawler it got capsized.
The crew of around 8 to 10 persons, onboard the capsized trawler, was brought to safety by the trawler that was towing the ill-fated fishing boat.
Meanwhile, speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’, Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association president Sydney Furtado informed that the owner of the ill-fated fishing trawler has sought help from the local fishermen to bring the capsized trawler to the shore and allot space for it for berthing near Khariwada jetty for repairs.
“However, as I have not seen the registration papers and not aware of the identity of the crew, I have decided to discuss the issue with the committee members of the GFBOA on Sunday and then take a decision,” he added.
