Jobseekers throng mega job fair

 

Thousands of students, graduates, degree, diploma holders made a beeline to the Don Bosco Oratory hall for the NCS Mega Job Fair organized by the government on Saturday.

It is estimated that no less than 6,000 jobseekers packed into the hall to bag appointments promised at the event. Total 70 companies from Goa’s private sector participated with promise of around 2,000 vacancies to aspirants. Vacancies were for fresher’s as well as experienced jobseekers and the openings were in different fields like IT, pharmacy, management, engineering, hospitality, retail etc. There were job opportunities for diploma holders, graduates and post-graduates as well as for ITI trainees and school dropouts.

Bosch, Cipla, Unichem Laboratories, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, IFB, Videocon, Persistent Systems, Commscope (Andrew Telecommunications), Marriott Resort, Park Hyatt and Manipal Hospitals were among the list of employers participating in the job fair. The event aimed at increasing employment opportunities for unemployed and offered a wide range of selection to the recruiters from a large pool of registered jobseekers with diverse skills and educational profiles. However technical jobs from manufacturing companies were few and most of the openings were for service jobs.

The objective of the fair is to increase employment opportunities for the job seekers and offer a wide range of selection to the recruiters from a large pool of registered jobseekers with diverse skills and educational profiles.

This is the first job fair for 2017 and the event received good attendance from all stakeholders. The Chief Minister inaugurated the event in the presence of Sidharth Kuncalienkar, chairman, EDC, Pravin Zantye, chairman GSHDC and MLA Mayem, Narayan Bandekar, president GCCI, Atrey Sawant, chairman, CII-Goa, Durgesh Angle, chairman NIPM Goa and  Suman Roy, founder Enviro Skills. The secretary of labour and employment, Padma Jaiswal, welcomed the gathering and Commissioner of Labour, Gopal A Parsekar, proposed the vote of thanks.

The job fair is organized by the office of the commissioner, labour and employment and the Regional Employment Exchange, Model Career Centre.
