Shree Jagannath Temple Trust Goa and All Goa Orissa Association celebrated the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath for the tenth consecutive year in Panaji.
The Rath Yatra signifies Lord Krishna’s journey from Gokul to Mathura. The festival is celebrated every year on the second day of the lunar fortnight during the month of Ashadha Maasa.
In Goa, the procession with ‘raths’ – chariots carrying idols of Lord Jagannath, (an avatar of Lord Krishna), his elder brother Baladev and their sister Subhadra Devi began at the Miramar circle and culminated at the ferry point.
Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant initiated the pulling of the rath near the Maruti Temple, Miramar. The final darshan and arti was held at ferry point. Devotees from across the state gathered in large numbers to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath.
