Wendell dedicates his book to all Goans

The much awaited book, ‘Moda Goa History and Style’ by designer, Wendell Rodricks was released on Friday at Institute Pius X in St Cajetan’s Church complex, Old Goa. As Wendell himself commented it was a one of the shortest book release functions held.

What was interesting to note was that guests were more interested in buying a copy and reading.
The book was formally released by Rosemary Crill, senior curator, Victoria and Albert Museum, London. In her address, Rosemary Crill mentioned that the book gives an insight into important cultural history through dress. She added that she happened to meet Wendell in the year 2009, in Jaipur, where he had made a presentation on the traditional Pano Bhaju dress, which is worn for mandos by the Christian community of Goa.
Wendell Rodricks, while speaking about the book, said that this book was a difficult endeavour for him. He added, “I want to thank all Goans who opened their doors and offered us meals when we went out to do research for this book. I also thank all those families who gave me access to their old sarees, jewellery and even some old photos. Some of these photos are from Canada and London. This book is for Goa and for all Goans everywhere.”
‘Moda Goa’ is published by Harper Collins India. It consists of 240 pages and has an innovative display of pictures. The book covers a rich tapestry of history, clothing bound with passionate prose. Starting with the topic ‘Purpose of Clothing’ the book travels to prehistoric Goa and back to the current Bollywood glamour.
Through this book Wendell places the history of Goan costumes in the spotlight with an archive that has never been researched before.
