Two-day classical music festival held

The Government of Goa, Directorate of Art and Culture, Panaji in collaboration with Pt Firoz Shah Dastur Memorial foundation, Thane organised a two-day classical music festival at the Goa State Museum, Panaji.

Vocalist, Pt Vasantrao Kadnekar was the chief guest at the inaugural function. Classical music is a very ancient form and must be preserved, he said.
The performance of Gautam Kamat and Girish Sanzgiri both from Mumbai was a feast to the music lovers. Gautam from Kirana Gharana started with raag ‘multani’ and abhang ‘Bolava Vithala’, while Girish started with raag purya, dhanashri, bada khyal and chota khyal, drut bandish, drut taal. He sang two abhangas ‘dnyani yancha raja’ and ‘Jan Vijan Zale’.
On the second day, Shilpa Duble Parab and Pravin Gaonkar both from Goa sang ragas and abhangas mesmerising the audience with their voices. Shilpa opened the show with raag lalit gauri, nand raag and dadra. Pravin Gaonkar sang raag gorakh kalyan in zumra taal and winded up with raag bhairavi by singing ‘Kaisi Bajayee Re Shyam Bansuri’.
The Directorate of Art and Culture, Mr Ashok Parab was also present on the occasion.
