Two renowned singers Devki Pandit and Arti Ankalikar Tikekar will fill the evening with enchantment with their mellifluous voice. The Goan audience will have a treat to listen to solo performances by these vocalists and a jugalbandhi concert, too. This will be presented at the Diananath Mangueshkar hall, Kala Academy on July 24 at 6 p.m.
A musical programme ‘Swar Varsha’ which means ‘Jugalbandhi’ has been organised by the Inner Wheel club of Mapusa. This club has a positive motive behind holding this event. The objective is to raise funds for inclusive education for mentally challenged children. TIES (Towards Inclusion Everywhere in Society) are a society of parents of children with disabilities. As its name suggests the underlying philosophy is inclusive growth. The parents are committed to ensure that their children are included in all aspects of society.
The president of TIES, Ms Gisselle Lobo said that the children being part of a society like TIES enjoy multiple benefits. She explains that by bringing such children into the mainstream, these children with disabilities will be a part of the regular schooling. She added that rest of the school children will also learn how to respect these special children and give them their place in the society.
Currently TIES has four resource rooms in the state. The Holy Cross High School (Bastora), Spring Valley high School (Pilerne), Lourdes Convent (Saligao) and the newly launched Holy Cross High School (Siolim). A total of 41 students are registered in all these schools.
Ms Lobo said the students with disabilities will have a special curriculum, which will involve them in independent learning, sports, story telling etc.
