Valakanni Productions have released a new ‘tiatr’ titled ‘Bhuk ani Tann’, written by Cajy Silva and directed by Joicelan - two talented youngsters, who have created a very good presentation.
The story revolves round a couple, Sania and John, who are very much in love.
Royston is John’s younger brother and is treated like a son by Sania. Into this peaceful existence enters evil in the form of Renee, a young two-timing woman who bewitches Royston as well as John. The kind hearted Sania allows Renee to bring along her retarded brother, a devil incarnate, as extra baggage. These two, with the help of advocate Roosevelt, cheat their elderly uncle and also try to cheat a doctor, who is a friend of the family. What happens later has to be watched on stage in this impressive drama on family values and the evils a woman can work to achieve her selfish goals.
The young writer has created a good script and the young director extracts fine performances from the actors. The ending, however, seemed a bit hasty, as those responsible for all the problems are let off without any retribution. Barring this small flaw, the play entertains and conveys a good message. The cast has Carmine as Sania who has done a nice act as the loving wife and in the scenes where she is falsely accused. Bushka is perfect as the evil Renee. The facial expressions, the movement of the eyes and the overall act is just right. Jaju is his usual self as John and Elvis is cast well as the soft spoken and understanding doctor. Joicelan acts well as Royston, so does Cajy as the advocate and Filipe Almeida does a fine act as the elderly uncle. Franky plays the retarded brother. Janet, Ben Evangelisto and Socorro provide plenty of humour supported well by two other newcomers.
Anthony de Velim provides the music for the songs in between the acts. James has given the background score. There are good songs by Bushka, Carmine, Jr Reagan, Mini Mario, Ignatius de Xelvon, Elvis, Ave, Jr Chico, Cajetan de Curtorim and Marcos Vaz. The stage settings by Alfred and Rodney looks good and Seby’s light effects are just right.
Don’t miss this show, it is enjoyable and worth watching and the new writer-director duo need to be encouraged.
