Swaranjali to mesmerize audience from May 2

PANAJI:  Swaranjali, a unique musical show from the House of Caculos, dedicated to the late Mohanbab Caculo, which will be performed at Dinanath Mangueshkar Kala Mandir on May 2, at 3.30 p.m. will provide connoisseurs of music the opportunity to enjoy Marathi music as well as Indian classical music – both vocal and instrumental – from local and national artistes of repute.

Informing about the four-and-a-half hour show during a press conference, Mr Manoj Caculo of the House of Caculos said that his father had a liking for music, especially Marathi stage music and other forms of Marathi music like Bhavgeet and Bhaktigeet, and the event is a tribute to him. “This will be an annual event and will be organised around April 16, my father’s birth anniversary,” he maintained.
Speaking further, Mr Caculo said that a music institution named after his father – Mohan Caculo Music Academy - has been set up at Candolim, the native village of the Caculo family, a year ago. The academy located in the precincts of the Shri Shantadurga temple has more than 80 students who are currently undergoing training in various musical instruments as well as vocal music, he noted.
The member secretary of Kala Academy, Dr Pandurang Phaldesai, informing about Swaranjali said that the show is divided into three sessions. “The first session consists of Savesh-Sabhinay Natya Geet Gayan Competition for 10 Goan singers have been invited – Sanjay Dhupkar, Siddhi Surlakar, Krishna Kotakar, Komal Sane, Shantaram Govekar, Usha Chari, Krishna Chari, Siddhi Naik, Ramnath Naik and Sampada Upadhye.  They will present songs from the Marathi stage musicals,” he informed, adding that the top three performers will get cash awards of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000.
“The second session of the programme will include a sitar-violin-tabla-mridangam jugalbandi with Ravindra Chari, Ratish Tagde, Ustad Fazal Quereshi and Sridhar Parthasarathy on the four instruments, respectively,” Mr Phaldesai said, pointing out that the last session will consists of adakari or performances by well-known vocalists of national repute, Suresh Bapat, Anuradha Kuber, Nilakshi Pendharkar and Nilesh Shinde, who will present Natyageets and Bhavgeets.
The accompanists include Damodar Shevde and Makarand Kundale on organ and Tulshidas Navelkar and Dayesh Kossambe on tabla. Dr Ajay Vaidya and Ms Sangeeta Abhyankar will compere the proceedings of the programme.
Dr Rajiv Kamat and Mr Suraj Caculo were also present at the press briefing. Swaranjali will be open for general public.
